Students learn different materials have different substructures, which can sometimes be observed and substructures have shapes and parts that serve functions.Ĭ6 Structures and Functions. They identify patterns related to time, including simple rates of change and cycles, and to use these patterns to make predictions.Ĭ6 Structures and Functions. Students identify similarities and differences in order to sort and classify natural objects and designed products. Students observe the shape and stability of structures of natural and designed objects are related to their function(s).Ĭ1 Patterns. Children recognize that patterns in the natural and human designed world can be observed, used to describe phenomena, and used as evidenceĬ6 Structures and Functions. They provide vital services for the nation: productive and sustainable fisheries, safe sources of seafood, the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and healthy ecosystems-all backed by sound science and an ecosystem-based approach to management.įor more information visit: NOAA Fisheries.Ĭ1 Patterns. NOAA Fisheries is responsible for the stewardship of the nation's ocean resources and their habitat. New research reveals that Atlantic white sharks, which were hunted indiscriminately for almost two decades following the release Jaws, have slowly been making a comeback. It is also known to prey upon a variety of other marine animals, including fish and seabirds. The great white shark is arguably the world's largest known predatory fish, and is one of the primary predators of marine mammals. The great white shark has no known natural predators other than, on very rare occasions, the killer whale. This coupled with the famous Jaws movies has given white sharks a bad rap. White sharks can grow to be 6m (18ft) long with 300 razor sharp teeth arranged in seven rows. They can live to be as old as 70 and don't produce offspring until they are about 33 years of age. White sharks are considered super swimmers, reaching speeds of over 56 km/h (35 mph) depths of 1,200 m (3,900 ft). White sharks are found mostly in cool waters close to the coast. This dataset tracks one great white shark as it migrates in the Pacific Ocean. Using satellite transmitting tags on wildlife allows scientists at NOAA's Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Animal Telemetry Network to track and monitor the behaviors of the wildlife in their natural habitats.
